New Delhi, May 20: Indian Air Force has sought the
help of authorities in Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal to trace
the MiG-27 ground attack fighter aircraft which went missing
after taking off from Hashimara airbase in West Bengal
yesterday afternoon.
An Air Force spokesman today said heavy rains in the area
was hampering search and rescue operations for the aircraft
and its pilot flying officer Sinha, being conducted by MI-8
helicopter.
Though search operation resumed this morning heavy downpour grounded the rescue helicopter, he said. The spokesman said IAF has sought help of authorities in Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal to trace the fighter which lost radio contact with ground control 10 minutes after taking off on a short haul flight to Bagdogra.
Air Force authorities have also alerted police and civilian authorities in the nearby area to look for the missing aircraft.
