Paris, Nov 01: Andy Roddick maintained his momentum as new world number one by beating Jonas Bjorkman in the Paris Masters quarter-finals. Bjorkman's 7-5 7-6 (7/0) loss means there will be no Swedish win on the ATP circuit for the first time since 1973.
He battled well before Roddick broke him in the 12th game with two superb backhand passes. The second set was also close but the tiebreak was a rout.
Roddick hit a total of 19 aces on his way to a semi-final against Britain's Tim Henman, who upset the odds by beating third seed Roger Federer 7-6 (7/5) 6-1.
