Guwahati, July 03: The flood situation in Assam today worsened with several districts reeling under the onslaught of the rising Brahmaputra and its tributaries following incessant rains in catchment areas, official sources said here.

Dhemaji, the worst-affected district for the last several years, was cut off from the rest of the state as national highway 52 was breached at Kekuri and Samarajan areas by the swirling waters of river Jiadhol. Rail services in the district were affected with tracks submerged under flood waters.
Agricultural fields were flooded and huge quantity of crops damaged, the sources added.
In Sonitpur district, the rising waters of the Jiabhoroli created havoc and there was no let-up in the continuous rains during the last three days. The national highway 52 between Mangaldoi in Darrang district and Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur was inundated disrupting road link at several places.
The Brahmaputra was continuing to rise alarmingly and was expected to cross the danger level soon.
Other affected districts include Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Nalbari, Barpeta, Darrang, parts of Jorhat and Golaghat, the sources added. Bureau Report
