New Delhi, Dec 04: Promising Indian teenage golfer Neha Majithia mastered windy and wet conditions at the par-72 Nuwara Eliya Club to win the Sri Lankan Ladies Amateur Open at Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka.
Neha beat Suwaneetha Selvarathnam 10 and 9 in the 36-hole match-play final last week, according to information received here. The tournament commenced with a two-day stroke-play round on the results of which the seedings were determined.
This was followed by the three-day match-play event. Neha finished third in the stroke-play event with scores of 81 and 80 handing her a tally of 161.
The 22-year old Jackie Dias of Sri Lanka won the stroke-play competition with an aggregate of 156 courtesy scores of 77 and 79.
Another Indian, 13-year old Vaishnavi Sinha finished second at 161 (88 73).

Neha's first encounter was with 25 year old Sri Lankan Rasika whom she beat 6 and 4. The following match with fellow Indian Vaishnavi Sinha went into the 19th hole, which Neha won with a par compared to her opponent's bogey.

Neha made early inroads when Selvarathnam dropped a shot on the very first hole to hand the Indian the lead. The next hole saw Neha miss a four feet putt to drop a shot.

Selvarathnam evened scores with a par. In a see-saw battle, Neha regained the lead with a par on the 180-yard uphill par-3 third hole.

A par on the par-4 eighth, which her opponent bogeyed, handed Neha a two-hole lead. On the tenth, Selvarathnam hit the ball to four feet but missed the birdie put and thereby the chance to reduce Neha’s lead.

With the Indian bogeying the par-4 12th, however, Selvarathnam managed to reduce the lead to one hole.

A determined Neha, however, went on to win the 14th, 17th and 18th to proceed to the 19th tee with a score-line of 3-up in her favour. Wins on the 20th and 21st, where she chipped-in from ten-feet for birdie increased Neha's lead to 5-up.

Thereafter, Selvarathnam completely lost her feel going on the drop shots on five straight holes from the 23rd to the 27th.

Neha with pars on the 23rd, 25th, 26th and 27th, annexed her first career title.
