Ahmedabad, Nov 16: Police recovered seven crude bombs, packed in Pan Masala tin boxes, today from outside a temple premises in Vatva on the outskirts of the city, police said. Senior officials along with bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the crude devices, that were packed in small Pan Masala tin boxes, did not have a fuse wire but could explode only when hurled.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Sector 2) Keshav Kumar told newspersons that it did not appear that the bombs were 'planted' outside the temple at Ghodasar locality but were rather just 'discarded'.

"Preliminary investigation by the bomb disposal squad revealed that the tin cans were totally rusted, thus indicating that they had been lying around for quite some time and would not be very impactive even if exploded", the additional commissioner said.
As the news of recovery spread, tension developed in the locality and people thronged the temple area even as police tried to keep them at bay.

However, situation was totally under control and the recovered crude devices were sent to forensic laboratory for detailed tests, he said.

Police was investigating further into the incident and continuing its crackdown on anti-social elements in the city, who manufacture crude devices.

A crude device had on Wednesday exploded near a tea stall in the city, injuring 13 persons while police had recovered 21 crude devices from Viramgaam on Thursday, a town that recently witnessed communal trouble.
