Woman sarpanch assaulted in Orissa, one arrested
Kendrapara, June 15: One person was arrested after a woman sarpanch was stripped and assaulted allegedly by ruling BJD supporters at Batira village under Patkura police station, about 35 km from here, police said today.

The sarpanch was admitted to the district headquarter hospital here for treatment.
Confirming the incident which took place yesterday, the superintendent of police Arun Bothra said a case had been registered following the incident.
The incident was a sequel to an altercation between the sarpanch and BJD supporters the previous day over distribution of cement for construction of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) houses, the sources said.
