New Delhi, July 10: Apprehending a rise in infiltration in the run up to the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Army is installing more Israeli sensors and thermal imagers on the Line of Control to keep an eye on movements on the mountainous border.
With deliveries in the past six months being stepped up by the Israelis, army units all along the LOC have now been equipped with a substantial number of these imagers, top army officials said here.
They said hand held thermal imagers with a capability of seeing 5 kms across the LOC during night had been deployed after undergoing successfull trials at Kupwara, Gurez, Uri, Poonch, Bhimbar gali, Mendhar, Rajouri and in plains of Jammu area.
With the deployment of such highly sophisticated systems, officials said army units on the LOC and hinterland had improved their militancy kill ratio significantly.
The DRDO recently claimed to have indigenously developed manportable electronic radars, which could act as sensors against infiltration on the LOC. Officials said the new system would undergo field trials in the mountainous region. Bureau Report
