Khandwa, Nov 29: Shiv Sena candidate from Nepa Nagar assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh Vijay Mishra was attacked by a group of unidentified assailants, armed with swords and lathis, who tried to set him afire, police said today. A group of over half-a-dozen persons attacked Mishra, poured petrol on him and set him on fire near a crowded bus stop at Singot village last night, they said.
People present at the bus sand immediately rushed to rescue Mishra and extinguished the fire, police said, adding the Shiv Sena candidate was admitted to the district hospital here.
Mishra, in a complaint with the police, alleged BJP's involvement in the attack on him.

He said at the hospital that about eight to 10 people came in two jeeps, beat him up and later set him on fire which burnt about 80 per cent of his 'kurta' before it was put out by the villagers.
Police said a criminal case has been registered against unknown assailants and a search was on to nab them. No arrest has so far been made in this connection.

BJP candidate from Nepa Nagar Chitnish ruled out involvement of his partymen in the incident and condemned the attack on Mishra.
