Polling in Haidergarh from where Chief Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting and Sadabad was proceeding peacefully during the assembly byelections in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
In the sensitive Haidergarh, about 20 per cent of the 2.09 lakh voters had exercised their franchise in first three hours using electronic voting machines, state chief electoral officer Noor Mohamamd said. There were no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere so far, he added.
In Sadabad constituency in Hathras-Mathura districts, around 25 per cent of the total 2.26 lakh electorate had voted since morning. The seat had fallen vacant due to the death of Mr Vishambar Das, a BJP legislator.
A total of 263 polling stations (242 in Hathras and another 21 in Mathura district) had been set for the 226,462 voters to elect their representative from among 16 candidates.
At Haidergarh, where 20 candidates are in the fray, 253 polling stations have been set up. About 40 per cent of these were declared sensitive and hyper-sensitive. The polling would continue till 1700 hours. State police headquarters here said that elaborate security arrangements have been made in the constituency. Armed policemen have been deployed in all the sensitive and hyper sensitive booths. Patrolling had been also intensified to nab anti-social elements. Extra police force was deployed following instructions from the election commission observer.

The borders have been sealed off to restrict the entry of outsiders in the constituency, sources said.
Mr Raj Nath Singh had to seek the people's mandate for continuing as chief minister since he was not a member of the state legislature. He chose Haidergarh following the resignation of dissident Congress leader Surendra Nath Awasthi alias Puttu from the seat. Bureau Report
