Expelled BJP leader lashes out at party leadership

Lucknow, Aug 05: Expelled BJP leader Ramashish Rai today hit out at the party leadership, saying it would not be possible any longer for the party to suppress the resentment among its legislators by intimidation.
Rai, who had played a pivotal role in the recent rebellion in the BJP and was spokesman of the `Save BJP Front', charged the party leadership with "mental bankruptcy" and said he was ‘surprised and pained’ at his expulsion as no action had been taken against those party leaders who had given anti-party statements in the past.
"This attitude of the party leadership is certain to prove suicidal for the party in the next elections," Rai, who was expelled for anti-party activities, said at a press conference here.
Citing the case of BJP MLA from Chilkahar, Ram Iqbal Singh, who has been served with a show cause notice for raising a banner of revolt against Mayawati in the land grabbing incident at Ballia, Rai said the indifferent attitude of the administration towards BJP MLAs and workers had given rise to "serious dissent" in the BJP rank and file.
He charged the Mayawati government with trying to break smaller outfits by terrorising and luring them to remain in power and said its days were numbered.
The rebel BJP MLAs were ready to "desert" the party at the right moment, Rai claimed.
He claimed that the government had deferred the assembly session from August seven to August 28 as it knew that it did not have majority in the Vidhan Sabha.
To a question, he said he was now "free" but had not yet decided about joining any party.
