Coimbatore, Nov 28: The first stage of Gulf Autocross, aimed at promoing motor sports at the grassroot level, would be held here on December 7.
Autocross is a time-trial-in-stadium event, where a participant is timed to hundredth of a second, a first step in the making of a good rider, Shrikant Karani of Sportscraft, co-organisers with Gulf Oil Corporation, told reporters here yesterday.
The 30 entries in seven classes from 80cc to 150cc Indian two-wheelers will have to move around a specially chalked out zig-zag course and a 'touch' to any of the obstacles along the course entailed a penalty of thirty seconds, which would be added to the final time registered by the rider during his exercise, he said.
Calling the event an opportunity for two-wheeler riders to put their skills to test, Shrikant said without bothering about on-coming traffic, the rider had to generate the right amount of speed and negotiate a pre-determined obstacle-laden course.
