Srinagar, May 18: CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Khalil Naik escaped a bid on his life by militants in Pulwama while elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir four militants were among seven people killed during the past 24 hours. An official spokesman said militants made an attempt on Naik's life when they hurled a hand grenade and opened fire the MLA's motorcade at Aawnura- Zainapora in the South Kashmir district of Pulwama last evening. The security forces escorting the MLA returned the fire but the militants managed to escape.
Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the house of another MLA Mian Altaf Ahmad at Wangth today. No one was hurt in the incident. In a similar incident at Mahu, militants barged into the house of Abdul Ahad Naik and shot him dead. The spokesman said Naik's son was a surrendered militant.
Security forces recovered one AK rifle, five magazines, 145 rounds, one wire cutter, 14 pencil cells, one pouch and 2 antennas from a hideout at Bharatgalla in Rajouri district last evening.
