Nottingham (England), June 26: Zimbabwean coach Geoff
Marsh said he was confident of a bold showing by his side in
the triangular one-day tournament which gets underway with a
match against England here at Trent Bridge today.
The former Australian opening batsman said he believed
Zimbabwe were better suited to this type of cricket at the
present time than the test match arena - they were hammered
2-0 in the two match series earlier in the summer by England.
"We reached the final of our last one-day tournament in Sharjah and in general the players are probably better equipped for the limited overs game than test cricket at present. "If they can add discipline and application to their natural ability the team has every chance of performing very competitively in the series".
Team captain Heath Streak said it gave the team a chance to redeem themselves after their poor showing in the test series - though the squad has been accused of being under-strength and inexperienced because they were unlikely to cause ruptions over the regime of president Robert Mugabe.
