Guwahati, Apr 26: Rail and road traffic were plying normally today in Assam's two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and N C Hills in defiance of the indefinite bandh of Indian railways and all national highways called by the militant wing of the UPDS.
Trains were running as usual while heavy vehicles were plying on the national highways and other roads with police escort, officials from the two districts said today.
Due to the heavy security arrangements, sources said, private transport operators were also plying their vehicles.
No untoward incident had been reported so far. Unprecedented security measures had been drawn up in both the hill districts following the bandh called by the United Peoples Democratic Solidarity to demand withdrawal of Clause 8 of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) accord.
The clause states that the Centre agreed to consider sympathetically the inclusion of Bodo Kacharis living in the two hill districts autonomous council areas in the scheduled Tribes (hill) list.
