New Delhi, Nov 15: One year into the gangrape of a Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) student in the heart of the capital, a city court today completed recording the statement of witnesses in the case. The last witness, investigating officer (IO) Sub Inspector Rajesh Shukla, today deposed before additional sessions judge Chandra Sekhar.

Shukla said though the incident took place on November 15, 2002, FIR was registered only the next day on complaint of head constable Bhikam Singh.

The IO said on November 16, 2002 he had got a telephone call from the casualty of LNJP Hospital regarding the medical examination of the victim confirming that she was raped.
He then collected the medico-legal certificate (MLC) from the hospital adding though he had gone to the victim's residence on the same day, he could not meet her as the house was locked.

The following day he had gone to MAMC, but again could not meet the victim as it was a holiday. On the same day he met the victim's father and recorded his statement.

Prime accused Rahul was arrested by police on November 22, a week after the incident.

The fourth-year student of MAMC was allegedly raped by three youth at knife point on the terrace of the "khooni darwaza" monument on the busy Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
