To offset its Afghan debacle, Pakistan's ISI has launched a Pen Target Operation against India by asking militants fighting in the Kashmir valley to disseminate stories against the state government, as per a leading Russian daily. The daily also cautioned that Islamabad was too close to starting a misadventure in Kashmir.
After sacrificing its 'child' (Taliban regime) in Afghanistan due to official backing to the US-led war on terror, ISI launched the Operation Pen Target to wage psychological war against India, ‘Nezavisimoye Voennoy Obozreniye’ (NVO-independent military review) reported. Within the framework of Pen Target Operation, ISI issued instructions to the mercenaries fighting inside Kashmir to influence mass-media in the valley to disseminate stories against the state government, NVO reported.
As part of the operation the October 1 attack on the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was to be portrayed as a drama staged by the government agencies to tarnish Pakistan as well as to seek international ban on Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba, NVO notes. The daily also cautioned that Islamabad would be tempted to launch its misadventure in Kashmir to gain from India's handicap as the hands of its air force would be tied up due to the US military deployment at main Pakistani airbases.
