New Delhi, Aug 27: Her sultry charms may not be quite as priceless as Bipasha Basu thought. An outrageous 50 lakh demand after 'Jism' has seen the sizzling actress dropped from one film after another. Not even the Bhatts who gave her stardom with 'Raaz' and then 'Jism', have been spared. Forced to replace the Bong Bombshell with Udita Goswami in her next project 'Paap', producer Pooja Bhatt doesn't mince words in blasting Bips' pricey ways.

"She's getting too big for her boots. I am not against people making money but too much too soon is never good. Oomph and sensuality no doubt matter. But what matters more is your attitude to work. An actress like Bipasha deserves something between Rs 15-25 lakh; to demand 50 lakhs is criminal. For that kind of serious money, she's simply not worth it", says Bhatt.
'Paap' is not the only film the former Kolkata model has lost in recent months. Those scared off by Bipasha's new asking price include southern director Pooranchandra Rao and Gaurang Doshi who wanted her for 'Deewar'. Some are in fact refusing to take the volte-face lying down. 'Jaane Kya Hoga' producer Alok Shrivastav, whose film Bipasha signed for Rs 15 lakhs and then allegedly walked out of demanding more money, has lodged a complaint with AMTPP against the actress.

According to Rao, who is set to cast one of the new faces seen at the recently concluded India Fashion Week in Mumbai, Bipasha has miles to go before she can make producers dance to her tune. "Her sultry looks may move the masses but it's still early days for her in the industry. Actresses like Suman Ranganathan, who are just as sensuous if not more, charge less than half of what Bipasha is asking. There are plenty of newcomers willing to work hard and filmmakers should encourage them", he says.

But the lady herself appears unfazed by all the criticism and insists the money she wants is consumerate with her status in the industry. "I am not here to do charity. As a professional I have a right to ask for the package I feel comfortable with. It is true that I charge far more today than what I used to during the early days of my career. But it is just as true that I have come a long way as an actress and my work commands a high price," she exults.
