Contempt notices to MCD Commissioner, two others
New Delhi, Sept 07: The Delhi High Court has issued contempt notices to the MCD Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner (city zone) and Assistant Director (horticulture, city zone) for allegedly failing to comply with its order to take a decision on a plea for allotment of Ramlila Maidan for Ramlila celebrations within five days.
New Delhi, Sept 07: The Delhi High Court has issued contempt notices to the MCD Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner (city zone) and Assistant Director (horticulture, city zone) for allegedly failing to comply with its order to take a decision on a plea for allotment of Ramlila Maidan for Ramlila celebrations within five days.
While issuing notices to the respondent MCD officials, Justice Vikramjit Sen asked them to file their replies by Tuesday next.
Earlier, the court had on August 26 directed the MCD to process the application of Sri Ramlila Committee of Friends Colony (East) for necessary permission within five days. The petitioner committee had applied for permission to organise Ramlila at the maidan on August 7, a day after it got no objection from the DCP, central district for a period of 43 days from August 28 to October 10, 2003. The committee, which has been organising Ramlila on this venue for the last 70 years, submitted that a number of preparations such as installation of tents, stages, procession 'jhankies', electricity and water supply, music, band parties, stalls and bazars had to be completed before the celebrations began.
