Delhi Police claimed to have unearthed an illegal gun-making factory in the capital and arrested one person in this connection. Several finished and semi-finished country-made revolver parts were recovered from a house in Bawana in north west Delhi from where Veerpal (45) was arrested, additional deputy commissioner of police (north-west) R S Yadav said. He said an information was received yesterday suggesting manufacturing of arms at a house in Shahbad Dairy Area.
A raid was conducted at the house but nobody was present there at that moment, he said.
Subsequently, an ambush was laid and Veerpal was intercepted at Kankar Khera road at around 10.15 pm, he said, adding a search on him yielded a country-made .315 bore pistol and some cartridges. After interrogation, he led the police team to a house where a number of finished and semi-finished pistols were recovered, Yadav said.
Veerpal, who worked as a mechanic at a factory in Shahbad Dairy Industrial Area, used to cut out and drill barrels and design other parts of pistols on his machine for the past two months.
He was planning to put the pistols up for sale, Yadav said.
