Hyderabad, Aug 20: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N
Chandrababu Naidu and TDP supremo today said the comprehensive
defeat of the opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion in the
Lok Sabha showed that it was based on 'non-issues' and was
politically motivated.
"The Congress has set a bad precedent by forcing a
non-issue on the house. The manner in which no-confidence
motion was moved was wrong," Naidu told reporters here, a day
after the motion was defeated by a margin of 126 votes.
Despite the former Central Vigilance Commissioner N Vittal
making it clear that he did not examine defence purchases
during Kargil conflict, the Congress had created ruckus in the
Lok Sabha over the issue and unilaterally moved a
no-confidence motion, Naidu said.
"I wonder what they (Congress) have achieved out of
this. The net result is that they have prevented pressing
public issues from being discussed in the house," the Chief
Minister said.
Though opposition parties have a right to move a no-trust motion, it should be used sparingly, Naidu said and disagreed with the way the PAC, headed by Congress leader Bhuta Singh, rushed through its report without taking the consensus approach.
"The Congress is playing negative politics and it should be countered," Naidu said. Bureau Report
