Bangkok, June 26: Soccer idol David Beckham has continued his whirlwind tour of Asia, taking Thailand by storm. And he also caused a stir in Italy, not on the pitch, but with wife Victoria in a collection of raunchy photos promoting Dolce and Gabbana fashion for the Italian edition of Vogue. Thousand of screaming fans packed into the Hua Mark indoor football stadium in Bangkok on Wednesday (June 25) to catch a rare glimpse of the former Manchester United icon, David Beckham. Beckham who wound up his 10-day promotional tour of Asia, arrived in the Thai capital sporting a white jersey, marked with Beckham and his trademark No.7 on the rear. Thousands of anxious fans queued in the scorching heat waving Beckham posters and chanting his name before being finally led into the stadium to meet their idol. The 28-year-old England captain was led into the stadium by a group of drum-majorettes and waved at the crowd as they chanted his name.

The crowd roared when the 28-year-old former Manchester United midfielder balanced a ball on his head and then on his back while doing push-ups in the stadium, which was festooned with banners and flags of the player.

Within minutes, Beckham was curling his trademark free-kicks into the back of the net to the delight of the crowd.

"I am very excited to know that I am signing for Real Madrid and that for anyone in football it is a massive thing, so for me it is a dream come true. I spent 13 very good years at Manchester United, I have got a lot of friends there, who will carry on being friends, a lot of fans that will still hopefully watch me in the games and support me," Beckham told a packed press conference after the event.

Beckham is expected to join Real Madrid, the new Spanish champions later this year after a 25 million pound transfer deal from Manchester United.

Beckham and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria were mobbed on their public appearances in Thailand during the past four days. The level of hero worship has even stretched into the realms of religion, with a Buddhist temple near Bangkok boasting a statuette of the famous footballer.

Beckham is on a promotional tour of Asia on behalf of his commercial sponsors. But the big story in Italy is a collection of sexy black and white photos.

The collection of photos entitled The Beckham's appeared in LUomo Vogue (Men's Vogue) and Sport Italia Vogue July/August edition this week in Italy.

In the financial capital of Milan, which is currently hosting the men's spring/summer 2004 fashion shows, there has already been a bit of a Beckham love fest with Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana, one of the Beckham's favourite labels, already dedicating their show to the England captain.

A huge picture from the Italian vogue magazine has also been hoisted up into the shops front window. The pictures will certainly cause a stir. One of the photos showing Victoria Beckham straddled over her husband is run on the front cover of Sport Italia Vogue with the headline Private Beckham's.

Photographer Steven Klein, who took the picture essay, has Victoria back down on a table with husband, David, head down over her stomach sporting a sample of the new collection from Dolce and Gabbana. In another picture Victoria is face down on the table with David's hand on the back of her neck as he stands behind her. All good raunchy stuff that will certainly not go unnoticed!

Director of Sport Italia Vogue, Anna Delorusso said the Beckham's have become modern-day icons. "The Beckham's represent the icons of 2003 at this moment. They are a couple who have come from nothing, they have become rich and have a jet set lifestyle, but they are also normal. They have two children, a normal couple, but with the possibility of enjoying life to its fullest. But he (David Beckham) has his own style that is very particular. It's because of this that he is copied by people, his hair, nail varnish on his hands. Everyone likes him, men, women, gays - everybody."
