Ahmedabad, Nov 19: Noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai today moved
court here seeking permission to go to Mumbai on November 20 till 21
to fulfill her professional commitments.
Her Lawyer R B Shah filed an application in this regard in the
court of Additional Sessions judge P B Desai here this afternoon.
The court has fixed a hearing on the issue on November 20.
The court, which last month granted Ms Sarabhai anticipatory bail
in a case of cheating registered against her, but had prohibited her
from leaving Gujarat without permission, had permitted her to travel
to Mumbai from November 12 to 14. She had reported to the Naranpura
police station the day she returned, as per the court's orders.
Yesterday, the court had rejected her application seeking
modifications in the bail conditions.
Earlier, the court had also observed that she could approach the court whenever she wanted to go outside Gujarat but her presence was needed in connection with the hearing in the case. Besides banning her from travelling outside Gujarat, the court had also asked her to deposit her passport and produce securities and personal bond of Rs 1 lakh which she did. The court had also granted her a 30 day time frame within which to apply for regular bail.
On October 18, one of her former students, Manushi Shah had charged Ms Sarabhai, director of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts, with not refunding the full amount taken from her and 12 others for a US-Brazil cultural tour in April this year which did not materialise after the us denied them the visas.
