Siliguri, June 25: ISI agent Nazrul Islam, arrested from Rajasthan last year for passing on sensitive information about the Army, today escaped from a court lock-up in West Bengal's Coochbehar district today, police said. Nazrul escaped from the court lock-up at Mekhligunj after he was brought for production in late afternoon, IGP (North Bengal) Bhupinder Singh told a news agency.
The district's border with Bangladesh has been sealed and DIG K L Meena has rushed to Mekhliganj, Singh said. An inquiry has been ordered into the escape. Nazrul, who passed on information on Army deployment and other details to his handlers, was arrested from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on August eight.
He was brought to Jalpaiguri from Jaisalmer on September 29 and then taken to Mekhliganj for interrogation by police. He was last produced at Mekhliganj court on October 12 which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police had on august 10 arrested one of his associates Sattar from Binaguri Army Cantonment area in Jalpaiguri.
After interrogating them, four other associates were arrested on September 13 from Changrabandha border area in Coochbehar for arranging Nazrul's frequent trip to Bangladesh. Bureau Report
