Kancheepuram, July 01: The flurry of VIP visits to Kanchi mutt continued today with Union Tourism Minister Jagmohan holding an in camera meeting with Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi. Later the minister told reporters that he had discussed with the Acharya the tourism and development projects in and around the temple town of Kancheepuram.
The minister said a meeting of civic body representatives and archaeological experts would be held in Delhi on July 23 to evolve plans for improving amenities and the environment in spiritual towns.
The Centre would suggest to the Unesco that places like Bhim Bhatia in Madhya Pradesh, Varanasi and Amrithsaras be declared as heritage structures.
Earlier, the minister reviewed various projects worth rs one crore in Kancheepuram, funded by the Union Tourism Ministry and state in the ratio of 60:40. He also visited the Kailasanathar temple and tourism complex.
