New Delhi, Sept 15: Cement output rose 4.95 per cent in August, 2003 at 8.69 million tonne as against 8.28 million tonne in August, 2002. Dispatches increased 6.49 per cent to 8.7 mt from 8.17 mt during the monthly review period, according to the latest updates of Cement Manufacturers' Association.

However, last month's output was less by 7.26 per cent as compared to 9.37 mt production recorded in July, 2003.
The despatches in August, 2003 recorded a 5.43 per cent dip as compared to 9.2 mt during the previous month.

Cement production increased by 4.02 per cent at 47.86 mt in April-August 2003 against 46.01 mt during the same period last year.

During April-July 2003, cement export showed a 3.74 per cent growth to 1.11 mt, as compared to the previous year period. Clinker export marginally doubled during the same period to 1.16 mt from 0.68 mt earlier. Bureau Report
