Badal and Venkaiah to discuss seat sharing
Nadala, Kapurthala, Feb 07: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal will soon meet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Venkaiah Naidu to discuss seat sharing in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to reporters here today, Badal said he was leaving for Delhi tomorrow to meet the BJP chief and other leaders. Badal also welcomed the decision of former prime minister Inder Kumar Gujral's son Naresh Gujral for joining the SAD and said it would be a matter of honour for the party. He said that Punjab and SAD owed a lot to the Gujral family. Gujral, during his term as prime minister, had taken care to uphold the interest of Punjab by waiving off loans to the tune of Rs 8,500 crore. Naresh Gujral has expressed his intentions to contest the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, held by his father twice, on a SAD ticket in the forthcoming election. However, Badal did not speak on his candidature and maintained that the process of selection of party candidates was on and an announcement would be made in this regard in due course of time.
