Chennai, May 26: PMK today asked the Tamil Nadu government to reconsider its stand on admission of students in the self-financing professional colleges. PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said in a statement that most of the seats in these colleges were in the hands of those who had made education a business.

He also said that the government's decision to hand over 55 per cent of the seats would adversely affect the social justice and the poor students. The Central government had recently issued guidelines in the admission of students in private medical colleges, which had stipulated that only 40 per cent of the seats could be given at the discretion of the founders of these colleges.

Neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had taken more number of seats in the self-financing colleges in their states under the government quota, he said. Why the Tamil Nadu government, which was quoting precedents from neighbouring states for withdrawal of concessions and hiking the user charges for many sectors, did not follow them in college admission policy, he asked.
