Kathmandu, Nov 22: Maoist supremo 'Prachanda' has
admitted the rebel leadership is unable to prevent the cadre
from engaging in violence, according to the leader of one of
the five political parties agitating against the
palace-appointed government, who met him recently.
We have not ordered our workers to brutally kill people,
CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpakamal Dahal alias 'Prachanda' said
during a meeting with Nepal Communist Party-UML general
secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, the opposition parties'
consensus candidate for prime ministership.
When the UML leader asked Prachanda to stop killing civilians and seek solution through peaceful means, the Maoist chief said his party was facing some difficulty in controlling its cadres, Radio Nepal reported quoting Madhav Nepal.
The two met on Wednesday, and it could lead to a major political development in the coming days, party sources quoted Nepal as saying yesterday in the mid-west town of Nepalgunj.
"There will be an important political development after a week which could have far-reaching consequences," Nepal told reporters, according to party sources.
Nepal and UML standing committee member Yuvaraj Gyawali and central member Govinda Koirala met Prachanda and second leader of the party Baburam Bhattarai, said former UML lawmaker Raghuji Panta. Madhav Nepal will hold talks with his party colleagues and other political parties when he arrives in Kathmandu today, party sources said.
Meanwhile, a Nepali Congress source said Prachanda has also held telephone conversation with the party president Girija Prasad Koirala, but did not elaborate.
