Chandigarh, July 22: Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal today accused Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh of making a "mockery of law" by issuing clean chits to his ministers involved in "rampant corruption and loot of public exchequer".
"Amarinder is clearly out to subvert even the Constitution to shield his corrupt coterie. Defending the corrupt has become a political necessity for Amarinder Singh as his own face is getting more and more disfigured with sleaze and corruption," Badal said in a statement here.
The Akali leader was reacting to Singh's recent clean chit to exonerate two of his ministers, Gurchet Singh Bhullar and Ramesh Dutt Sharma.
While Bhullar faced charges of shielding corrupt officials in the irrigation department in the multi-crore canal work scam, Sharma was reported as having indulged in cases of forgery, fr aud and land-grabbing over Wakf Board property.
