Hyderabad, Oct 02: TDP workers and activists will observe Non-Violence Day today to condemn yesterday’s attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu by suspected naxalites who set off a series of powerful landmine blasts at the foothills of the famous Venkateswara temple. Naidu escaped the bid on his in which he received injuries on the nose, chest and collar bone that also left a ruling party MLA critically injured.
Four others, including minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy and one more MLA, were injured in the remote controlled blasts near the Alipiri toll gate on the Ghat Road to the temple.
Naidu, who is top on the hit list of extremists, suffered a fracture on his right hand, collar bone and minor injuries on his chest and nose as his motorcade bore the brunt of the blast that occurred at 4.15 pm near the high security Ghat Road leading to Tirumala.
Senior Minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy, two MLAs Ch Krishna Murthy and R Rajasekhar Reddy, Chittoor district TDP president Rameshchandra were also injured in the blast that badly damaged the Chief Minister`s bullet-proof car.
The condition of Rajasekhar Reddy, who represents Puthur constituency in Chittoor district, is serious.
The Chief Miniter was on his way to the shrine to offer new silk `Vastram` on the 5th day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsvam festival.
"It was a claymore mine blast targeting the Chief Minister`s convoy," Director General of Police S R Sukumara said. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu and a host of other leaders have condemned the attack as “barbaric”. Bureau Report
