Lucknow, Apr 28: Samajwadi Party leaders, including its deputy leader in Uttar Pradesh assembly Ambika Chaudhary, today filed objections before a local court against invoking SC/ST Act against them in the case in connection with alleged manhandling of Chief Minister Mayawati and some BSP legislators in the state guest house here in 1995. In the first chargesheet filed in the case, SC/ST Act was not included. Later, a supplementary chargesheet was filed by the state invoking provisions of the act against the accused.

Chief Judicial Magistrate S M Ashraf directed the state government to file objections, if any, by May 7 in the case. Mayawati and some other senior BSP legislators were allegedly manhandled and roughed up at the guest house on June 2, 1995 after they withdrew support to the then Mulayam Singh Yadav government in the state.

The matter was hanging fire since then as the accused had moved the high court in revision and writ petitions. Bureau Report
