New Delhi, Nov 01: Charging the Congress with indulging in "desperate tactics" and violating the model poll code by misusing official machinery, BJP today asked the Election Commission to be more vigilant and "play a more proactive role".
"Election Commission should play a pro-active role and be vigilant in this regard. The commission should also ensure handing over of corrected electoral rolls at least 10 days in advance to all the political parties. The Congress party should ensure that its chief ministers maintain discipline," party president M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.
"The drama enacted by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi before the election commission office yesterday amounted to intimidation of the commission and was aimed at covering up his misdeeds," he alleged.
Describing Jogi as a "habitual violator of rules and regulations," Naidu said, "It is unbecoming on the part of the Chief Minister to behave like this. He is indulging in one upmanship."
He alleged that schoolbags were being distributed in Chhattisgarh even after the model code has come into force. "The same is the case with the distribution of spectacles by Jogi's wife who is misusing the official machinery," he charged.
“Schoolbags are being transported by trains and trucks and are being distributed freely in the villages even now," Naidu said. Bureau Report
