Putrajaya (Malaysia) Oct 14: Pakistan Foreign
Minister Khursheed Mahmood Kusari today said his country would
be forced to acquire a new generation defence system following
India's recent move to induct new generation weapon system.
Kasuri, in Malaysia for a summit of the Organisation
of the Islamic Conference (OIC), told reporters that an imbalance of
power would create a dangerous situation.
"The real threat exists when one party is too weak against the other", Kasuri said.
"This is why Pakistan will do maintain minimum credible deterrent," he said accusing India for increasing tensions in South Asia.
"Instead both countries should be spending money on eradicating poverty and boosting development," he said.
"India's recent plans to buy Phalcons (from Israel) and new generation defence systems from and all over the world poses a credible threat to Pakistan," he said.
Speaking on the day Pakistan conducted its third missile test, Kasuri said the testing programme had been arranged some time before and was nothing to do with new Delhi's recent defence acquisitions.
Referring to India's recent defence deal he said, "we are not in arms race with India but we will do whatever is required to maintain the current no-win situation."
"We do not have to match aircraft for aircraft but we will be forced to acquire new generation defense systems," he said.
