Alliance returned to power.
However, the BJP will not join the government in Andhra Pradesh if the coalition led by the TDP was voted to power in the state, Naidu told reporters at the airport here.
Expressing optimism that the TDP would get a majority on its own, he said ''there is no question of the BJP joining a TDP-led government. However, it is up to the TDP to decide on whether to join the NDA government after the elections.''
TDP Supremo N Chandrababu Naidu had announced even before the commencement of the 1999 elections that his party would not join the NDA in the event it came to the power.
There was no question of the anti-incumbency factor working against the TDP which had ushered in more development when compared to any Congress government in the past, as in the cases of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where the Congress had failed on the development front, Naidu claimed adding that the simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly would see the TDP through in the state.
Taking a dig at the Congress for aligning even with smaller parties for the elections, he opined that the party, which had fought election alone in the past, lacked self-confidence now and had conceded defeat even before the elections had started.
