Boston, Feb 29: Tho Boston Bruins defeated the first place Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.
Glen Murray's overtime goal lifted the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Fleet Center. Ted Donato and Andy Hilbert also scored for Boston, which won for the first time in five games (1-1-2-1). Andrew Raycroft made 26 saves for the Bruins, who won the season series against the Flyers (2-1-1). Mark Recchi and Alexei Zhamnov scored for the Flyers, who lost for the first time in four games (2-1-1). Robert Esche, who missed 10 games with a knee sprain, returned and made 29 saves for Philadelphia. Murray took advantage of a Philadelphia turnover to score the unassisted game- winner. Flyers defenseman Chris Therien had the puck behind his own net and tried to move it up the left-wing boards to Recchi. The Flyers forward failed to control the pass and the puck deflected to Murray in the circle. Esche got a piece of the shot, but it still trickled into the net at 1:21 of the extra session.
The goal came on the Bruins' first shot in overtime. The Flyers used a two-skater advantage to take a 1-0 lead with 2:13 remaining in the first period. Recchi's one-time blast from the point off a feed from Kim Johnsson beat Raycroft stick side just three seconds after a cross- checking penalty to Mike Knuble ended. The Bruins actually had four skaters on the ice when Recchi scored, but Knuble was still on his way from the penalty box.

Boston tied the game early in the second period. Craig MacDonald stormed into the Flyers' zone and fired a shot from the right circle. Esche made a pad save, but the rebound caromed to the slot. Hilbert had an open net to fire home his second goal of the season.

Donato gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead just 14 seconds into the third period, poking in a rebound after Esche made a save on a shot by former Flyer Dan McGillis. McGillis' shot was deflected and the puck sat in the crease behind the netminder before Donato knocked it into the cage.

Zhamnov beat Raycroft glove side with a high wrist shot from near the left circle to tie the game at 2-2 at 8:45 of the third period.
