TN CM lays foundation stone for Secretariat
Chennai, Oct 30: Ignoring Centre`s notification making it mandatory to get its clearance for all major urban projects exceeding Rs 50 crore, Tamil Nadu government today went ahead with its proposal to construct a Rs 400 crore new five-storeyed state-of-the-art Secretariat-cum assembly complex at the 43.2 acre land adjoining Anna University complex.
Chennai, Oct 30: Ignoring Centre`s notification making it mandatory to get its clearance for all major urban projects exceeding Rs 50 crore, Tamil Nadu government today went ahead with its proposal to construct a Rs 400 crore new five-storeyed state-of-the-art Secretariat-cum assembly complex at the 43.2 acre land adjoining Anna University complex.
The state chief minister Jayalalithaa laid the foundation stone for it at the sprawling land. Before laying the foundation stone, Jayalalithaa performed bhoomi puja.
The construction of the complex, expected to be completed in two years, would be an architectural marvel, sources at the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the nodal agency for the project, said. The Union Environment Ministry had recently issued a notification making environment impact assessment by the ministry mandatory for all major urban projects exceeding Rs 50 crore.
