Durban, Feb 26: South Africa, which has witnessed a tourist boom, since apprehensive travellers avoided US after Sept 11 terror attacks, has now announced new plans to further increase the tourist flow from traditional American and British markets.
"We have designed a new package, titled 'Sunsation 2003', to specifically target the UK market, to leverage South Africa's popularity with British holidaymakers, showcase the country as an affordable, year-round destination", South African tourism ministry said in a statement yesterday.

According to statistics, more than 300 000 Britons are attracted to South Africa's scenic beauty, coastal dunes and wildlife.
The ministry says the campaign offers two value-for-money packages aimed at clearly defined market segments. Priced from around R108 000 to R178 000, both include return flights to South Africa, accommodation and are both available for travel between 1 April and 31 August, 2003.
Early last year, South African tourism offered UK tourists to South Africa a seven-day package for just about R8 000. All-inclusive was three-star accommodation for six nights, bed and breakfast, car hire and return airfare with South African airways.

South African tourism says Sunsation 2003 had been put together to specifically address South African tourism's key challenges of encouraging geographic spread, improving seasonality, length of stay and spend, together with the broader goal of contributing significantly to sustainable tourism growth, job creation and increasing the industry's contribution to the gross domestic product of South Africa.
