La Plata, Feb 17: River Plate draws 2-2 against Chicago as Independiente defeats Estudiantes 4-1 in Argentine championship tournament.
In the first week of the Clausura 2004, Independiente downed Estudiantes 4-1 at La Plata, earning three points to lead the standings in the Argentine first division. Daniel Quinteros opened the scoring from a penalty, Christian Gimenez extended the advantage with two goals and Hernan Losada scored the 4th goal. River Plate opened with a draw, coming back twice to finish 2-2 against Nueva Chicago. Chicago was ahead twice with goals from Cesar Gonzalez, a free kick, and Daniel Tilger, a header, but River managed to draw with goals from Fernando Cavenaghi and Jose Sand.
