Guwahati, Dec 06: Ten months after the signing of the historic accord by the Bodo Liberation Tigers with the Centre and Assam government, BLT militants today bid a farewell to arms and members of the interim Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) would take oath in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani at Kokrajhar. The BLT would be disbanded today, ending the decade long problem, after its cadres laid down arms in the presence of Union minister of state for home affairs Swami Chinmayanand, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Governor Lt Gen (retd) Ajai Singh, official sources said.

Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Union minister for the development of North East affairs Dr C P Thakur would be present during the swearing-in ceremony of the members of the interim Bodoland Territorial Council.

The leaders would also attend a public rally on Bodo-accord for peace, prosperity and unity at the Kokrajhar campus of the Guwahati University on December 07.

The Assam government issued the notification for the creation of the council on October 31 with all Bodo organisations like All Bodo Students Union, Bodo Peoples' Action Committee, All Bodo Womens Federation and others giving the BLT the power to form the interim council.

On February 10 this year, the BLT signed a memorandum of settlement in New Delhi the presence of Advani, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, and ministers of state for home I D Swami and Harin Pathak, which proposes to abolish the existing Bodoland autonomous council as soon as the self-governing body of the BTC came into existence.
