The CAG report, tabled in the state assembly today said the state government raised only 52 per cent of its receipts while the remaining 48 per cent came from the Centre.

During 2000-2002 tax revenue registered an increase of 16 per cent whereas non-tax revenue registered a decrease of 3.3 per cent over the receipts of previous year, the CAG said. A test check of records of trade tax, state excise, taxes on vehicles, goods and passengers, stamp duty and registration fees, land revenue, electricity duty, tax on purchase of sugarcane, forest receipts and other departmental receipts, conducted during 2000-2001, revealed under assessment, short-levy, loss of revenue amounting to Rs 1632.23 crore in 2629 cases, the report said.
