Varanasi, Nov 05: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today said it would soon intensify efforts to construct a Ram temple at Ayodhya. A meeting of the high-power committee headed by Mahant Avaidyanath will be held soon to chalk out a programme for intensifying the Ram temple movement, VHP international president Ashok Singhal told reporters here.
Denying reports that VHP's 'sankalp sabha' programme in October last proved to be a damp squib, Singhal claimed over two lakh devotees assembled in Ayodhya on October 18, 19 and 20 to offer prayers.
Criticising the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government for stopping the devotees from reaching Ayodhya to take part in the 'sankalp sabha', Singhal said, by doing so they infringed upon the constitutional rights of the people.
The VHP is preparing a list of those arrested during the Ayodhya programme and it will register cases against the government for infringing fundamental rights, he added.
Singhal also demanded an inquiry into the alleged police excesses on devotees during the programme. Bureau Report
