New Delhi, May 23: Samajwadi Party today dismissed the statement of senior Congress leader Arjun Singh on forging an alliance between the two parties in Uttar Pradesh saying the party would not take it "seriously" unless Congress chief Sonia Gandhi herself make such statement. "In Congress the decision is president centric....We are not not going to take it seriously unless the Congress chief Gandhi herself making a statement on the issue", party general secretary Amar Singh told reporters when asked about Arjun Singh's statement on the matter.
Nevertheless, Smajwadi Party leader said he has high regard for Arjun Singh, a senior Congress leader and SP would not lag behind in taking up the issue raised by him.
Asked if Arjun Singh's statement was indicative of any challenge to Sonia Gandhi's leadership, Amar Singh said he would not like to interfere in the internal matters of any party but reminded that Arjun Singh himself had clarified on the matter.
Asked about the Samajwadi Party strategy for the states-- Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi--going to assembly polls later this year, the SP leader said it was too early. "Like Congress and other parties preparing themselves for the elections Samajwadi Party too was doing that".
On the tie-up with Congress party in these states, he said it would be better if you ask this question to Congress leadership.
Arjun Singh, while talking to reporters yesterday, said there could be an alliance with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and it was for the party to resolve the situation in Bihar where a section of partymen was demanding snapping of ties with the ruling RJD. Bureau Report
