At least 42 illegal Iraqi immigrants, most of whom are Kurds, are still staying at Indonesia's Tanjung Balai immigration quarantine, north Sumatra, as the UNHCR has yet to give a reply on their return to their homeland or their dispatch to a third country.
These immigrants have been staying at the quarantine for the last few months, immigration office said on Sunday. In fact, some of the illegals were reluctant to be repatriated to their homeland for fear torture by President Sadam Hussein's followers.
Till now, there has been no report on the schedule of their repatriation. Earlier, a spokesman of the north Sumatra immigration office said 42 Iraqis were found drifting in Tanjung Balai Waters without a clear destination, by an Indonesian naval ship in February.
Then, most of these immigrants did not have any passport or other official documents were handed over to the Tanjung Balai immigration office. Bureau Report
