"I am honoured to have been appointed to this position," said Bracewell.

"It is only one step away from the honour of playing for your country.

Bracewell was quick to pay tribute to the Gloucestershire set-up.

"It has always been a stated ambition and understanding with the club that I wish to develop my skills to the point where I could coach to international level.

"I will always be grateful for the opportunity that Gloucestershire have given me to advance my skills.

"It has been an honour to work in the English County game."

Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson said: "We are all extremely pleased for John and have every confidence that he will prove to be a successful international coach.

"However, we will be very sorry to see him go."
