Detroit, Mar 05: The Detroit Red Wings skate to a 2-1 win over the visiting Calgary Flames.
Henrik Zetterberg and Mark Mowers both scored to lead Detroit to a 2-1 win over Calgary at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday (March 3). Manny Legace made 28 saves for the Red Wings, who posted their fifth straight home win and their third straight victory overall. Jarome Iginla posted his 34th goal for the Flames, who had their two-game winning streak snapped and suffered their fourth straight loss in Detroit. Roman Turek stopped 20 shots. During a scoreless first period, Calgary dominated play with a 12-5 shots advantage. The Red Wings also killed off two power plays.

Midway through the second period, Zetterberg put Detroit ahead 1-0 on the power play. Mathieu Schneider fired a shot on goal from the centre point. Zetterberg gathered the rebound and scored on a short wrist shot.


The Red Wings, who killed off three Calgary power plays in the second, took a 2-0 edge at 8:02 of the third period. Kirk Maltby intercepted a pass at center ice, then dropped a pass to Mowers on the left wing. Mowers skated through the left faceoff circle and beat Turek with a high wrist shot for his first goal in 25 games.


Iginla pulled the Flames within 2-1 late in the game. He skated through the left faceoff circle and beat Legace with a low shot with 4:59 to play in the third period.


The goal denied Legace his second shutout of the season and fifth of his career.
