MTNL to spruce up call centre ops, add 2,000 agents
Mumbai, Nov 09: With the entry of private sector players and opening up of the telephony sector, state-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) is gearing up to take on competition by setting up another 600 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) and sprucing up its call centre operations.
These are in line with the company's new customer initiatives as MTNL expects a quantum leap in customer base, he said adding, the company already has around 270 BTS in Mumbai and Delhi.
However, there would be no recruitment or addition of staff, as MTNL is planning to meet the increased demand in manpower by re-aligning staff from other departments, he said.
On the customer-friendly initiatives, MTNL has reduced rentals of its GSM services, Dolphin, to Rs 100 from Rs 300 and has rolled out an array of initiatives in an attempt to retain its existing customers. This also includes the recent launch of its landline phones with free incoming facilities.
