Jammu, Oct 30: In a novel attempt to provide surgical and other specialised medicare facilities to the people living in remote and mountainous areas, the state government has organised a "health mela" involving specialised doctors from outside the state.
"The health melas will provide special medical facilities, including operation theaters, in remote and mountainous Basholi belt of Kathua district," Government Medical College Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr Yashpal Sharma told reporters here today.
Specialists from top healthcare institutes, especially from different departments of surgery, from outside the state would be holding the eight-day long camp commencing November 3 at Basholi, Sharma said.
More than 12000 patients are expected to throng the medical camp, he said, adding that such melas will be organised every month in other farflung areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
