New Delhi, Dec 03: Jammu and Kashmir will soon be on the mobile network of the country as the government today assured state chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed that mobile services would soon be launched in the state.
The assurance came after Sayeed met Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan here this morning.
The mobile services for the state were cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security earlier this year.
After the meeting, Mahajan said in the first phase, Srinagar and Jammu cities would be put on the cellular map of the country after which the facility would be expanded in phases in other districts.
The Union Minister said the cellular facilities were expected to be launched by April next year.
During the meeting, Sayeed also raised the issue of providing information technology booths, which would be connected with Internet facilities, at block levels.
Mahajan assured Sayeed of all help in this regard and asked the state government to come out with a concrete plan of action.
The planning commission has already sanctioned Rs 65 crore for setting up internet facilities at block levels in the state.
