New Delhi, Nov 26: India today reacted cautiously to Pakistan's new offer to normalise relations, saying New Delhi would be looking for action on the ground and not merely words. ''We have seen the comments of the newly appointed foreign minister of Pakistan. We will naturally need to wait and see its reflection on the ground,'' an external affairs ministry spokesman told reporters in response to questions.
He was asked about Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri's remarks that his government accorded first priority to normalise relations with New Delhi and hoped that it would reciprocate in the same spirit.
"We are prepared to go half way or may be even a step further in improving relations with India," Kasuri said in an interview published in Pakistani daily 'Dawn'.
The MEA spokesman said it was well known that the Pakistani military and related establishment had time and again ''scuttled attempts at productive dialogue. Sponsorship of terrorism directed against India has been a part of this attempt,'' he said.
New Delhi had also noted that during the recent visit of a Sikh Jatha to Pakistan on the occasion of the Guru Nanak Dev's birthday at Nankana Sahib, the Pakistani agencies had attempted to encourage only those coming from other countries and known for their anti-India views and activities.
He said the Sikh Jatha from India was compelled to walk out from a function. Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had met a select group, those known for their anti-India activities, he said. Bureau Report
