Narayanan said the Dravidian movement had brought about a social change in the country and had immensely helped the people who were oppressed for centuries. The approach of the Dravidian movement leaders was of great relevance, particularly when the oppressive forces used religion to create divisions among various sections of the society, he said adding, the movement was a turning point in retrieving human rights, self-respect and social justice for the oppressed classes.

The movement was to eradicate the imbalances in the society and it had waged a war against the castiest forces, which were ruling the roost, the former president said.
